I am a senior at Northern Arizona University studying Computer Science, graduating in May of 2017. My passion is Space Exploration Technologies. I want to help change the world by helping people leave ours.
My father is a software engineer who has had a very interesting and engaging career. He studied Electrical Engineering at the University of Maine, served in the United States Army, Special Forces, worked in Nigeria helping set up communications and security for an embassy for several years, and then later worked in Defense at Lockheed Martin as a software engineer. I have always looked up to him and been inspired by the work that he has done and all that he has accomplished.
He has helped foster in me the drive to learn new things and the perseverance to see projects through. He began teaching me how to program when I was 9 on a Macintosh Performa using Visual Basic. I remember trying to write a simple algorithm that would fill in a square like the bucket tool in image editing software. I succeeded but he told me that there were ways to have it complete the task more quickly, and so, I tried again.
My interests, asperations, and ambitions can all be attributed to moments like that in my past. If it weren't for him I would not be where I am today, about to graduate with a degree in Computer Science. I can't wait to begin my career and I aim to make it as interesting as his.
Man cannot discover new oceans unless he has the courage to lose sight of the shore.
